Definitions

CMSK-TDMA The term consists of two parts:

    • CMSK (Coherent Minimum Shift KeyingDigital modulation method that allows efficient data transmission on a radio channel.
    • TDMA (Time Division Multiple AccessTime-division multiplexing access for multiple devices. This is a channel-sharing technology that allows multiple devices (ships) to use the same radio frequency, transmitting data in precisely timed intervals or “time slices” to avoid signal interference. 

In AIS systems, this mode ensures that nearby vessels can transmit their data (position, speed, course) on the same frequency without their signals interfering with each other. It is typically used in dedicated Class A AIS devices. Yes, sir.
