The tiller extension link is required to extend the Autopilot drive ram when it does not reach the desired location. Extension links are available in 25mm increments, from a 25mm link up to a 153mm link. During installation, it's not always possible to precisely control where the rear end of the ST1000+, ST2000+, ST4000 Autopilot drive is attached. You should always choose the most sensible, practical, and sturdy location. At the same time, important installation dimensions must be adhered to: 460mm from the tiller pivot towards the tiller head, and as parallel as possible to the boat and the tiller. Another important measurement is the “midstroke” or centre position. For the ST1000+ and ST2000+, this is 589mm, and for the ST4000, it is 620mm. These are the distances between the centres of the tiller and hull mounting points. Be sure to read the Autopilot installation manual! If you are asked, “but I need a 300mm link and you don't have one,” the answer is to screw two 153mm links together. However, do not extend the ram unnecessarily long; this should only be done if there is truly no other option.
