All Raymarine SeaTalk NG cables and connectors are colour-coded:
The blue socket of the connector is suitable for a blue/black cable, which is the BackBone, also known as the trunk cable. The white socket of the connector is suitable for a white/black cable, which is the SPUR, also known as the drop cable (or drop trunk cable). The wrong cable will not fit into the wrong socket. When preparing for installation, make a plan so that a BackBone cable of suitable length runs through everywhere where STNG (NMEA2000) devices are to be installed. Leave a break in important locations where a T-connector or a 5-way connector can be installed, and no instrument connected via a drop cable to a connector on the BackBone should be more than 5m away.
