Raymarine ST4000 MK2 Wheel Drive drive belt (A18083), also known as a transmission belt, is a necessary spare part if you are planning a longer holiday trip. Usually, the belt is only replaced when it breaks, but this may not happen where all spare parts are readily available. In such a case, it is very good to have the necessary spare part yourself. There is no specific recommended interval for changing the belt; it all depends on the intensity of use. During general maintenance, you should assess the condition of the drive belt yourself, and if there are signs of wear or cracks, it must be replaced. For daily use of the autopilot, it is advisable to monitor the following small details: Whether the layshaft always spins freely when the clutch is disengaged and When the clutch is not engaged, the drive belt will not slip. These small details give a pretty good overview of the actual condition of the belt. For belt replacement, be sure to consult the ST4000 MK2 service manual; clutch adjustment is discussed in more detail in the text below.
If you have changed the drive belt, then you need to adjust the clutch.
If the clutch is adjusted correctly, then:
The flywheel can rotate freely when the clutch is disengaged
• it slips when the clutch is engaged and the engine is running
To adjust the dosage:
Engage clutch.
Unscrew the clutch button screw about 2 turns counter-clockwise with a 3 mm Allen key.
3. Turn the clutch knob clockwise up to 4 turns to tighten the clutch or anticlockwise up to 4 turns to loosen the clutch.
4. Tighten the clutch button screw again with the Allen key.
5. Check that the drive wheel still moves freely when the clutch is disengaged.
Note. If the drive wheel does not move freely, reduce the clutch tension by turning the clutch knob two clicks counter-clockwise (the belt will loosen) and check again.
6. Check the overall drive operation during normal use with the clutch engaged.
The procedure described above is usually sufficient to adjust a slipping or loose drive belt. In some cases, you may need to repeat these steps to further adjust the clutch.
